Inspiration behind the Izzy candle

Izzy was a ray of light, and was full of life and adventure.

Whilst grieving the loss of Izzy, her family are passionate about celebrating Izzy’s life and keeping her light shining bright into the future.

Izzy loved candles, and whenever a candle was gifted into the home, it would soon disappear from the mantlepiece into Izzy’s room, where she would gaze into its flame, critique the scent, and play with the melted wax.

On Izzy’s 15th birthday, on 25 August 2015, a schoolfriend gifted Izzy a candle. That night, she sent her friend a video of her holding the lit candle, singing the words, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.”

The Izzy candle features these same words from the song originally written by Harry Dixon Loes around 1920 as a children's song. More information about this song and the complete lyrics can be found here https://allnurseryrhymes.com/this-little-light-of-mine/

On 13 July 2024, Izzy’s family gathered with members of the snow safety team at Cardrona Alpine Resort to remember Izzy, and to erect a light box on the mountain in her memory. The light box is adorned in snow angels and snowflakes and also features the words “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.”

The chosen scent for the Izzy candle is Japanese Cherry Blossom. In the days leading up to the tragic loss of Izzy, her mother had planned to join Izzy in Japan to see the cherry blossoms (Sakura), before journeying back to New Zealand, where Izzy would work on a Canterbury ski field for the 2024 New Zealand ski season. Sadly, neither Izzy or her mother got to see the spectacular sight of the flowers in bloom.

Hand crafted in Picton, New Zealand

This candle has been handcrafted by Izzy’s family in Picton, New Zealand. All components that go into the development of each candle have been sourced from New Zealand suppliers.

  • The candle is made from 100% soy wax.

  • The Japanese cherry blossom fragrance oil is phthalate free, and is IFRA and allergen certified.

  • The candle has top notes of Japanese cherry blossom, mid notes of citrus and mimosa, and base notes of vanilla and tonka bean.

  • The very strong, thick glass jar complies with ASTM 2179 AND 2147 testing methods, which ensures glass can withstand heat and has no cracks or fractures.

Candle care and safety

  • Trim the wick to 6mm before lighting candle each time to ensure a stunning flame, and a cleaner burn without soot developing.

  • Each time you light the candle, allow for the melting of the wax to reach the outer edge of the jar, which will create an even burn and avoid tunnelling.

  • Keep candles out of the reach and away from children and pets.

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.

  • Always place the candle on a stable, level and heatproof surface, away from flammable objects and drafts.

  • Never burn a candle all the way down or it could overheat the glass jar. Leave 10mm of residue wax.

  • Never touch or move a burning candle when the wax is liquified.

  • Place burning candles at least 10cm apart from each other.
